Do remember that whatever your reason - this is a centuries old practice that has been passed down in Indian traditions for the expansion and liberation of consciousness. As much as possible, I try to gear our classes towards connecting with the light that is already inside you - all else is incidental.
Yoga and then some.
Yoga has been interpreted differently and presented differently by Yoga Masters of yore. I was introduced to Yoga in the Sivananda Tradition through the teachings of Swami Vishnudevananda who promoted a synthesis of Yoga of 5 Kinds.
Proper Breathing, Proper exercise, Proper Diet, Proper Relaxation and Positive thinking and meditation.
Shri BKS Iyengar who is considered a modern master on yoga propounded yoga as a discipline that transformed the practitioner with great emphasis on personal discipline, proper attention to technique and intensity of practice.
There are many ways to approach it, some better than others and some less or more demanding.
